Performance Sign Up Sheet

This meetup is meant to be a space where we can all share concepts, resources, and anything else to do AV experimentation and performance.

These will be semi-structured, the first hour will be open for us to share work and chat, followed by time we will have to share performances and rehearse ideas in front of others. When we don’t have performers signed up, we will facilitate open jams. Bring your computers, instruments, and whatever else you use to perform. We will provide a projector, speakers, and some limited computer access.

Over time there will be opportunities to join (and lead) in workshop topics.

Free Tools:

To be able to perform and experiment as a group, it’s helpful for us to have a few tools we can fall back on, especially for group performance.

TidalCycles

Tidal Cycles is a live-coding environment that makes it quick to create complex rhythms, melodies, loops, and control signals live.

https://tidalcycles.org

PureData

PureData is a visual coding platform for audio and visuals, with a massive and long running community.

https://puredata.info

Touchdesigner

Touchdesigner is a visual language primarily made for live visuals and interactive audiovisual art.

Goosegrid

Goosegrid is a free web based MIDI sequencer. I made it! It is meant to be quick and easy to use for live experimentation.

Ringworm

Ringworm is a free web-based variable rate looper that I created. While it’s still under development, you can use it in it’s current form at the link below:

Sunvox

Sunvox is a free composition suite with a modular synthesizer and a tracker. It runs super well on a ton of devices, including tiny computers like Raspberry PI.

Strudel

Strudel is a offshoot of TidalCycles, using JavaScript instead of Haskell.

Orca

Orca is a livecoding tool that provides an interesting grid interface for creating generative music.

These tools are paid, but a number of us use and are familiar with these:

MaxMSP

MaxMSP is a visual coding platform that is similar in many ways to PureData. It is related to Max for Live, which provides a way to create custom code in Ableton.

Ableton Live

Ableton Live is a popular digital audio workstation. It can be expanded using Max for Live.
